Women Part of NASA's 50-Year Space Odessey:
Servicewomen Astronauts Have Expanding Role in Space Exploration

The agency that would lead America to the moon and beyond was formed 50 years ago when the National Aeronautics and Space Administration opened its doors Oct. 1, 1958. Though heavily male dominated through much of its history, pioneering women—including many servicewomen—broke into and eventually through the astronaut corps ranks.

Special Exhibit Features Fallen Military Women Quilt
"Fallen Military Women Quilt" will be unveiled with a special tribute ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Women's Memorial and will be on display indefinitely. The quilt contains the names of servicewomen who have died in Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

The American Soldier: A Photographic Tribute to Soldiers and Marines from the Civil War through the War in Iraq
is on display at the Women's Memorial through Labor Day, Sept. 1, 2008. The exhibit features 115 photographs that capture the courage, camaraderie, heroism and ultimate sacrifice of US soldiers and Marines from the Civil War to the War in Iraq.
